About
Made in India. Built around flavour.
Contemporary Indian craft spirits, made with a sense of place.
We started Chhota Hazri Spirits to make modern Indian spirits that are recognisably of this place without relying on nostalgia or cliché.
That begins with the liquid. Baagh puts bright Indian citrus ahead of an overpowering juniper profile. Baagh Blue takes a familiar Indian fruit, jamun, and builds a contemporary gin around it.
Different expressions. The same approach: clear flavour, thoughtful ingredients and spirits made to be drunk rather than explained.
The name
Chhota Hazri
Chhota hazri was the first drink of the day in nineteenth-century India: usually tea, taken early with something small alongside it, across barracks and households alike. A small, deliberate ritual before the day begins.
It is a craft drink in its own right, and a fair description of what we are trying to make: something considered, made for the moment it is drunk in.
From the Distillery
Made where the oranges grow
Baagh is produced in Nagpur, which is not a coincidence. The Nagpur orange that leads the gin grows in the same district as the still.
-
01
Local crops
The base spirit starts with crops grown around the distillery, not shipped to it.
-
02
Small batches
Distilled in controlled batches under our Master Distiller, Nikhil Bhoomkar.
-
03
Tasted, not just measured
Baagh took over a year to settle, tried by mixologists across the country before it was signed off.
-
04
Filled and cased
Every batch checked for consistency, then filled, labelled and packed by hand.
On the line in Nagpur: filling, labelling and casing.
