Baagh Indian Craft Gin
Citrus · Juniper · Spice

Baagh is an Indian craft gin led by orange and lime, followed by juniper and a gentle current of spice.
Most gin puts juniper first and asks everything else to follow. Baagh starts somewhere else: with Indian citrus, Nagpur orange and lime, and lets juniper support rather than dominate. Green chilli and black pepper arrive late, warm rather than sharp.
The result is a gin that works as easily over ice as it does in a martini, and that tastes recognisably of where it is from without announcing it.

The art
The label is a painting
Baagh’s label is not artwork in the usual sense: it is an oil painting, made for the bottle by Vikas Soni, a second-generation artist best known for his murals at Bar Palladio in Jaipur.
The garden he painted is the name made literal: flamingos, a macaw, palms and flowering undergrowth, worked over three weeks in the summer of 2021.

The wordmark
Mother India showed us the way
We’ve received a fair bit of appreciation for our label and bottle. Really, the credit belongs to the iconic Mother India poster, painted by B.M. Gupta in 1957.
The poster, and the type, hasn’t aged a day, and it was a great starting point for Baagh’s identity. We wanted to steer away from a Pinterest-y, sans-serif, clean-looking thing, and instead make the label and the type strong, with a clear identity that would hopefully stand the test of time.

Recognition
Judged blind, four times
Every one of these was awarded in a blind tasting or design jury. We have not entered Baagh into competitions that judge with the label showing.
