Made where the oranges grow
Baagh is produced in Nagpur. The orange that leads it grows in the same district.
The Nagpur orange has a geographical indication and a reputation that goes back generations. It is also the botanical that gives Baagh its opening note. Producing the gin in Nagpur is therefore not a piece of provenance styling. It is the shortest possible distance between the fruit and the still.
Citrus first, not juniper first
Most gin is built juniper-forward and asks everything else to arrange itself around that. Baagh starts with Indian citrus, orange and lime, and lets juniper support rather than dominate. Green chilli and black pepper arrive late and read as warmth rather than heat.
The base spirit is made from crops grown around the distillery rather than shipped to it, which shortens the supply chain and keeps the citrus character bright.
Over a year to settle
Baagh took more than a year to arrive at. It was tried by mixologists across the country during development, and signed off with a final tasting from Manu Chandra. Every batch since is checked for consistency before it is filled, labelled and cased.
